It's too simple to say that it is everything you would expect. By that I mean, Danbury has taken an older tech base car and upgraded most aspects to a more-than-acceptable image. Sure, the doors are on doglegs, but we knew that. The paint is smooth and glossy in a perfect match for Sunfire yellow. The window trim is precise and flawless. Wipers are non-glare and well proportioned. The black stinger and its attendant pin-striping are without blemish. Door handles, door locks, opening body-colored gas filler door and PE "Corvette" script at the rear are miniatures of the genuine articles. The for-1967-only center backup light is a properly ribbed clear lens. The antenna is fixed, as it should be. All gaps are well within realism. My comment on the engine bay is that it, too, looks just like a scaled-down motor and its accessories. Nothing toy like about it.
With its 3x2 bbl 427, side pipes, finned alloy wheels, and well-done redline tires, I want to get inside and roar off down the road. Over all, DM has done a great job in turning the six year old '63 Sting Ray donor into a most attractive version of, to my mind, the most cherished C2 Corvette ever to hit the street.
I have used a lot of superlatives in the above description, but we are not done just yet. None of what follows should be enough to deter anyone from getting one of these beautiful diecasts. Most of the detractions are fixable, however. The front of the car sits a scale two inches too low. Not only does it look low, but the resultant turning radius must be a tenth of a mile. I don't know if the 427 engine caused this, but the steering wheel appears angled up too high. In order to provide working steering, the position of the shaft compromises your first impression upon looking into the interior. The molding between the side pipes and the body is slightly crooked on the left side of my sample. As is proper for this year, that molding has black paint applied to it. The paint on the right side is uneven. Some of these can be fixed with an exchange; some could have been engineered out. Assuming the two quality issues are resolvable, I give it 4.5 corks, and I still love it.
