A model that sparked my interest recently was the Danbury Mint '25 Ford Model T Touring Car when I noticed it was receiving much attention on auction. The '25 Model T Touring Car, which was limited to a mere 5000 pieces, is a dandy model for those that love these old time replicas. Recently a few models sold on auction for over $350.00 dollars not bad for what some consider a ho-hum model.

I purchased this replica new simply because I loved its look and I consider this model to be a major contributor to automotive history. Ford built approximately 15,000,000 automobiles with the Model "T" engine, the longest run of any single model apart from the Volkswagen Beetle.

From 1908-1927, the Model T would endure with little change in its design. Henry Ford had succeeded in his quest to build a car for the masses. With the development of the sturdy, low-priced Model T in 1908, Henry Ford made his company the biggest in the industry. By 1914, the moving assembly line enabled Ford to produce far more cars than any other company. The Model T and mass production made Ford an international celebrity.

The chassis featured a beam axle and transverse leaf spring at the front and rear. Ford's patented planetary transmission was built in unit with the engine. The end of the transmission housing had a ball and socket joint that received the ball front of the driveshaft and took the thrust from the rear wheel bearings. The transmission was controlled by the clutch, reverse and brake pedals, marked "C" "R" and "B" respectively. The T sported a side-valve, three-main-bearing engine with the cylinders cast in one block and an output of 20 horsepower. It is said that top speed of the '25 was between 35 - 40 mph and that was pushing it.

As usual Danbury Mint captured the look of this model perfectly. I love these old classics and this is the grand daddy of them all. The fit and finish is flawless with the paint having a wet look; it's that smooth. Tires and spoke rims are some of the best I ever viewed on any model of this era.

Viewing the model from the front you can't help but love the delicate look captured so well by Danbury Mint. Remember these were not large automobiles they were in reality rather small. Comfort wasn't a consideration at the time it was all about building an automobile as cheaply as possible so everyone could afford to own one.

From the crank used to start it, to that nasty looking transverse leaf spring that made up the front suspension you can't help but grin with excitement upon viewing this replica. You can't help but wonder what kind of ride those transverse leaf springs gave your kidneys either.

The model is very plain, or should I say clean, lacking the bells and whistles that we find on automobiles of later years. Remember one thing this was a working mans car. It had one function back in 1925 and that was to get you from point A to point B and it did that rather well.

The interior is very simple with clean lines too. However, it compliments the replica perfectly. Viewing images of 1:1 automobiles I found this replica to be extremely accurate in detail.

You may pose it top up or down. I chose to pose mine top down everyone can enjoy the entire model to its fullest. The bottom line on this sweet model is if you find one on auction don't hesitate to place a bid. It will add tremendously to your collection filling a period that was very important in the automobile industry. This is undoubtedly a five star model bar-none.
