At $1317, a Custom convertible was the most-expensive regular-wheelbase DeSoto for 1942, but it made for a stunning ride. Only 489 were built in the shortened model year. "Out of sight except at night," DeSoto;s hidden headlights were controlled by an under-dash lever. When the lever was activated, the doors retracted upward and the lights turned on.
