Pontiac/Chevrolet |

The first image is of a Pontiac and Chevrolet- Parked in
front of the Rainbow Bar and the side-by-side Barbershop/ Laundromat. The
bar is based on a Beer joint my Grandfather had during the mid fifties.
There were "Booths for the Ladies" and lunch was served daily.
The model front is made of dark blue acrylic that is used for outdoor signs.
I found some scraps of it in a box and it was the perfect thing to represent
Vitrolite; a glass product that was created to "spruce up" older
buildings in the 1930's and 40's. This product came in many wonderful colors
that by today's standards seem odd. But it was widely used back then throughout
the USA, and it still can be seen in older towns. |

The Rainbow Bar |
| |
The Rainbow bar- interior- Small and intimate for sure, with
the ever-present scent of cigarette smoke and spilled beer. The seats are
made of sintra and styrene, plus aluminum tubing for the legs and coat
racks, and then painted with Krylon spray paint. Basswood was used for
the booths, Bar and all the woodwork. Wallpaper is courtesy of a wallpaper
ad in a magazine that was Xeroxed. |

The Barbershop |
| |
Barbershop interior - This was modeled on an actual barbershop
from my hometown in Pittsburgh. Within weeks of completing the model, the
real place was torn down. The chairs are constructed of wood, plastic,
craft bead pieces and part of a car seat from a plastic car kit. |

Laundromat |
| |
All night Laundry - Sintra is the main building material
here and the Bendix commercial washers of the early 50's were the source
of inspiration. The floor is krylon paint on styrene. I masked off the
design and used three or four different colors to achieve the desired effect. |
