DeSoto at Night |
| |
DeSoto at night - The White Castle model was built from authentic
architectural plans I acquired from a friend. They were perfectly engineered
structures with no space wasted. The exterior is 1/4-inch sintra left unpainted
to give it the enameled panel look. The metal trim is very thin aluminum
cut in strips. The whole scene was photographed using a 75-watt bulb hanging
about four feet above the model in a darkened room. |

White Tower |

White Tower interior - Styrene is the material. The floor
is a Xeroxed checkerboard pattern stuck down with double sided tape. The
stools are finishing washers with painted plastic plugs used as cushions
and the posts are square aluminum tubing cut to length. Plexiglas beads
make up the coffee pots. |

Under the streetlight - The upper part of the building is
an altered LGB building. There are a few things I would do differently
now, but at the time it worked. The upstairs apartment has a living room
and kitchen in it. The first floor storefront is a wallpaper and paint
establishment with cans of paint and, to scale, rolls of wallpaper and
not to mention a linoleum rug display. There is also a back room with supplies.
Hegners is an actual business from my childhood. |

Kitchen set - These items are in the apartment above Hegners.
Sintra and styrene make up these reproductions of what is now in my real
kitchen. There is an old adage: "draw upon from what you know".
I know these pieces of furniture intimately. |
