I still remember sitting in 8th grade science class and hearing that the Robin Hood Flour mill, along the Mississippi, had exploded. The blast blew out windows in the Davenport Bank and Trust building half a mile away. That was May of 1975. They tore it down and never rebuilt.

A spark ignited the dust inside one of the big grain silos. Four workers were killed, with one poor soul thrown out into the river, and five were injured. Seven were rescued from the top of the structure by helicopter.

In elementary school, we had a field trip to the Wonder Bread Bakery, which was right across the street from the mill.

It is sad seems when this happens to businesses they usually don't rebuild.
