Today I had what is hoped to rid me of AFIB for good. I had an ablation done on my heart. It's not surgery. It's a medical procedure.
In layman's language the brain and heart act on electrical impluses. My heart has some electrical wires that are crossed. So, during an ablation catheters are threaded into the heart and situations are artificially created to the heart to see how it reacts to those situations. Medical science knows what those acts should be and so they deaden the electrodes that are reacting the wrong way, making everything run smoothly again greatly reducing the risk of a stroke. That's pretty much it.
I was asleep during the entire event, being put that way listening to 60's music. I stayed in the hospital one night only because of a scheduling error. It was the best night' sleep I've had in weeks.
The only thing I regret is that I now will have to take blood thinners again for the next 30 days. So I will once again look like a train wreck survivor as bruising comes quickly and easily for almost the slightest bump or scrape.
Yes Frank, glad you've put this in the rear-view mirror and feel better again. I've not had to take blood thinners, but my brother did and I know what you mean about the bruising.
Back in the hospital briefly for a good thing.
