Despite winning the 1998 TransAm championship, Paul Gentlilozzi decided to switch marques for the 1999 season and created the HomeLink Ford Mustang Cobra. The season would prove to be a battle as Paul trailed Brian Simo for the points lead for most of the season. Trading first place and top five finishes combined with the hard work of Gentilozzi’s team, in the end, the HomeLink Mustang clawed back to the top and won the 1999 championship in one of the closest point finishes in TransAm history. Gentilozzi continues to dominate the Trans Am series and is poised to tie the record for all time career wins set by the legendary Mark Donohue.
