Fighter plane-inspired details gave the 1948 Buick Roadmaster a modern look and made it a sign of great things to come. From its "Sweeping Airfoil" fenders, to the large toothy chrome grill and unmistakable "gun sight" hood ornament, the Buick was ready-made to appeal to an Air Force pilot's sensibilities. Sitting proudly at the top of Buick's line, the Roadmaster was not only the biggest but also the fastest in the fleet, powered by an impressive 144 hp V-8.
The hood opens on side hinges in both directions (a Danbury Mint first!) to view the perfectly replicated 144 hp V-8 engine with its accurately scaled plumbing and wiring. Open the trunk lid to reveal a removable spare tire and cloth lined trunk interior just like the original! The windshield wipers pivot, the radio antenna raises and the gas filler door opens. Both doors swing open to showcase the luxurious interior with folding front seats. Even the suspension is fully functional.
