In April 1942 there was little evidence that John B. England age 19 a newly enlisted private in for training, as an aviation cadet would eventually rise to the rank of Colonel. Assigned to the 357th Fighter Group, 8th Air Force in Great Britain, Colonel England took part in 108 combat missions destroying 19 German aircraft including 4 on a single mission. He was awarded the Silver Star and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
Colonel England returned to the states in February 1945 continuing to serve in the Air Force until his death in 1954 while returning from a training flight.
