John Cooper Fitch, the man behind John Fitch & Company, Inc., was a lover of fast cars. Therefore, it was only natural that after retirement he would form an automobile company to create his dream car.

It didn't take John long to figure what direction he was going to take his company; when Chevrolet announced the release of the Corvair, in 1959, John decided this was the automobile he was waiting for.

Mr. Fitch reworked the suspension, brakes and steering, on the Corvair, then he added radial tires and a four­carburetor setup to develop the ­Sprint­ conversion package. John Fitch & Co. set up shop near Lime Rock; later the company would supply kits for installation by selected Chevrolet dealers too.

The Automodello 1966 Fitch Phoenix in 1:43 scale is a stunning depiction of John Fitch's dream. I love what this mint is doing in the Diecast Industry; they are taking these very rare automobiles and recreating them in miniature for all of us to enjoy.
