More Info:
In February of 1999 the world got its first look at the future with the introduction of a Corvette C5R built for one purpose, road racing! The #2 Goodwrench Service Plus Corvette made its debut at the Rolex 24 at Daytona with drivers Ron Fellows, Chris Kneifel, and John Paul Jr. and led the event for half the race before finishing third. Impressive for the C5R’s maiden outing but just a hint of what was to come. In addition to its podium finish at Daytona, through five races that season the C5R also had a season best second place finish at the Grand Prix in Sonoma. The return of the Corvette to the racetracks earned Chevrolet the World Challenge Special Achievement Award and put the racing world on notice that a serious competitor had returned.
