For 1967 Carroll Shelby’s put even more effort into making the GT500 noticeably different from a stock Mustang. First he made the hood and headlight caps longer than normal giving a meaner, more purposeful look. An additional pair of headlamps close set in the middle of the grill alerted oncoming traffic to its arrival and the flat panel taillights framing the Cobra fuel cap, signaled its passing. To convey the power lurking within, he added a prominent hood scoop and brake-cooling side scoops behind the doors, finishing with a very noticeable rear spoiler and distinctive 10 spoke wheels. The simple rocker panel stripe with G.T. 500 nomenclature announced the 428ci Police Interceptor V-8 giving impressive power to the lucky driver. Lee Iacocca had championed a winner in developing the Mustang; Carroll Shelby added his legendary touch to make it a very serious iconic performance car.
