Do you hear a song that makes you smile remembering a road trip?
It was 1985, and the song was "Gloria".
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNEb2k_EmMg
Rob & I lived in Manhattan and our upstairs neighbor was a good friend. Her parents had a beautiful home on a high bluff overlooking Cape Cod bay. Her parents gave Rob & I their house for a week. So Rob & I left NYC on a Friday afternoon in my 1976 Eldo convertible with our black cat Mehitable & our little white dog, Mitch. We drove during the night, and every radio station was playing "Gloria". We arrived in Cape Cod just hours before the storm hit. Lost power meaning no water. After a few vodkas I rolled down the bluff trying to get water from the bay to flush the toilet. We learned you can not grill steaks in 60 mph winds. We lost power for days, the city cat got bitten by a bug that resulted in a thosand dollar vet bill.
But every time I hear the song "Gloria". I smile with the wonderful memories I had with Rob, Mehitable, Mitch. And that was the last trip in my 1976 Eldo convertible.

I drove a lot at night traveling long distances for many years, and one song that continually gets played on radio, especially back in the day of local radio DJ's, was American Pie by Don McLean. (lol, it was a long song, and DJ's needed a break sometimes )

While I was in college, the University scheduled McLean to perform in concert on our campus. The activities coordinator at our college was a member of my fraternity, so I was in the inner circle and got to meet some of the music celebrity groups and individuals after the concerts.

Great question / story.

Reminds me of the lessons I learned out in Colorado.
Too tough to pick just '1' song.
I almost lineup with Gene on this pick.

But, I've got to go with 'Call me the Breeze' by Lynard Skynard.

For me it's Freebird. It always got played at some point. But then again, Skynyrd is my favorite band. Everytime I took a trip I just felt free for a few days. No work bs, no schedule to adhere to, etc. Just relaxing and doing what I wanted to do, when I wanted to do it. A lot of those trips were 4 wheeling with my buddies in the mountains. Grilling out on the campfire, drinking some bourbon and just hangin'. Ahh, good times.
