Just looking down the list. It seems we only have a handful of participants anymore. A lot of reads, but few participators. Does this bode well for the site? I love dropping by most everyday to enjoy the posts and comradery. It just seems less and less are interested. Sorry if I'm beating a dead horse. I guess I just miss all the fun and excitement we used to have. Is collecting our little cars falling by the wayside? The bus running on flats? Hell, I dont know. I still get excited when I can find and acquire a new model, or build one. And I enjoy sharing them with you guys. Just curious on what your guys thoughts are. Im stumped.

I used to post pics every once in awhile but there was never much response so I just gave up. It takes time to post so I appreciate the efforts of those who do.
I still stop by most days but have a lot of distractions now so I don't always post a reply.

Well, I kind of feel the same, but even though only a few post and/or reply there are still a lot of reads. Just the way it is. I no longer look to buy any more cars, only because I’m not getting any younger and I worry what will become of my 100+ 1:24s. I’d actually like to sell, or at least donate the whole lot as one.what little posting and a lot of reads are the result of the Mints actions, thanks in part to the Chinese government.

I understand Steve, I currently have 200+ models, plus, I'm guessing 50+ unbuilt model kits. My grandsons want the majority. My buddy Curt will get his pick of some one day. But pretty much what Mark touched on, I feel if no one's interested in seeing models posted anymore, why bother. It was fun to get my coffee in the morning, come here and hang out. That's what the 1/24 section was all about. Great friends, fun, and model cars. We might as well hang out in the Corner Bar forum otherwise. I haven't decided yet if I'll even post model pics much longer, sadly. As I enjoy it. Maybe I'll give it a couple more weeks. It just doesn't seem worth it. I've been trying to stay positive about it, but...... Just my 2 cents. I think Automodello buys whole collections still.

This is the issue I was trying to address in my post about posting photos. It is too difficult because you need another photo account to store your photos. Instead of just uploading them from your phone. But the response to that post was basically, no its not really that hard, or no things are fine the way they are. But I think that unless some changes are made to improve this site and redefine its purpose, it is going the way of the Dodo.

I usually don't start a post, but I do respond to the posts of others. I really enjoy this site and hope that those who post pictures will continue to do so. I am working on a diorama and hope to be able to post a picture of it by the end of the summer. I still have a passion for the little cars, and occasionally pick up an inexpensive one. Most recently it was a '64 Chevy II, which reminded me of my first new car. It has, of course, a lot of shortcomings, and I am working on making it more presentable.

I understand Jay. I've had a Flickr account for years and that's what I use since that's where I store my photos. It's generally easy to copy and paste from there. I've never had any issues. I pray we can keep interest going here. I'll continue to post pics for a couple more weeks and see how it goes. Tom, I look forward to seeing your diorama.

I have been coming to the JSS site frequently since about 1999. I will continue to visit at least every other day. I use to have a Fotki account with my auto albums and 1000s of auto pictures (still have the albums / pictures saved on my computer). But a number of years ago Fotki wanted money so I let my account lapse as I wasn't posting as many pictures.

Since I am not good at taking pictures (four cameras and no cell phone) I have not been taking pictures at car shows that I frequent. Sad but true, I plan on using a professional photographer to take quality pics of my yellow 1966 T-Bird conv. in a Fall color setting. So posting pictures is not something I seem to be able to do at this time.

I remember many years ago when there was a 1:24 diecast market and vendors like WCPD asked our opinions regarding new releases. To a minor extent, Automodello did the same thing. I would spend many hours web searching a models color options, gather pics. Also, on JSS, we use to have contests, vote for your favorites, like a model year or style. I remember when we went back-and-forth, head to head, between a beautiful Bill Blass Mark and my 1976 Eldo conv. So many people were commenting and voting. These were fun times on JSS.

At a time past JSS felt like a community of like minds. Off-line I developed relationships with some JSS members. It was 2003, I posted I was moving from Dallas to Ottawa Ontario. Cliff, who viewed JSS, contacted me. Only because of JSS, it made my move from one country to the next easy, I made life long friends I keep in contact to this day even after I retired and moved back to the states.

This has been a long post so I will try and shorten the ending. JSS has been an enjoyable part of my life for more than two decades. I have interacted with diecast collectors, vendors, etc., both on and off the web. I have collected more than 100 1:24 models, some 1:18, some 1:43. My passion is always going to be 1:24. I have already collected what I want when new. Not much new I want but hoping Automodello will fill the gaps in my 1:24 collection. Where are the 1963 & 1966 T-Birds that DM planned to complete the Thunderbird series before China shut them down?

Lately, I've not had time to spend on the site like I want to, and I've had some health problems contributing to that.

I would seriously miss the site, if I came here one day and it is gone.

In my opinion, the problem with JSS is that we don't have a lot of new 1:24 models being offered by manufacturers, especially new ones at moderate prices. That reduces traffic coming to the site, and in turn slows contributions.

One other thing I've noticed is that while there are relatively few clicks on topics the first few weeks, there is an astounding number of clicks on all threads months later. I can't explain that, but somebody is still interested in our diecast models.

Last thing for now, while I don't buy diecast much anymore, I've become very interested in collecting 1:24/1:25 plastic model kits, and have attended a few model shows the past couple of years. I've actually spoken to Automodello Jim a couple of times at the Detroit Model Show. He has a booth there.

I look every day, unless I am traveling. I respond to at least one post whenever I look, and when I've missed a few days, I make up for the absent comments then. I think many of us are in the same boat. Interested in the hobby but getting older. Less options in 1:24 except on Ebay and the condition of many cars listed there stinks, in my opinion. People do not point out the flaws and many sellers don't even know about them, because they are resellers of other people's collections. I've turned to 1:43s to satisfy my thirst, but have a love for my 1:24s, so I still come here. Most importantly, the people here are genuinely nice.

OK, it's my turn to chime in.
I just took a look at my JSS-bio, I came on-board in Jan-2013. I've enjoyed every minute of that ime in spite of the periodic technical difficulties.
I was urged to join JSS by'Ryan Hurley' who I'd bought a couple of 1:24s from on the 'old' D4C. He was right about JSS; but, sadly he's moved on too. *Hope he is well. He collected and built some fantastic 1:24s back in the day.

Anyway, withoiin a couple years of coming to JSS I noticed that 'during the summer' input on 'both' JSS and D4C slowed down dramatically. Then, it would pick back up in the wintime.
Conclusion ... guys were busy with families, outdoor activities, etc.

However, I do believe the when the Mints pulled the plug on 1:24s it put a serious dent in continued interest. Like a couple have mentioned here - collectors gave in to shifting (pardon the pun) to 1:43s.... and some 1:18s.
I'm not going to 'shift'. I've got 200+ 1:24s - I'll just enjoy what I've got. And 'cherry pick' when I see something i really want.

In 2013, I was 'laid off' and hunting for work. So, paying someone to store my photos so I could post them was really out of the question. I had a house payment to cover. And 'now' I can barely 'text' on my smart phone lest alone post a photo. There may acutally be some tricks you can't teah 'an old dog'!!! LOL.

I don't really notice our 1:43 forum that busy.
So... what do the new members to JSS want to see on the site?
1:43s can take 'the wheel' for a while and 1:24s can piggy-back for a while.

One outstanding thing about JSS.... there was NO finger pointing. We respected everyone's opinion.

What some great input from everyone. It's nice to hear everyone's thoughts on the matter. Hopefully it will pick up more when colder weather rolls around. It'd be nice if M2 would release some "new" stuff since they do it affordably. But they mostly just rehash the same tools over and over. I've emailed them time and again, but never get a response anymore. They used to stay in touch with collectors about what we'd like to see. I guess that isn't important any more.
