The Danbury Mint offered quite a few '56 DeSoto models. Those models covered the Firedome, Fireflite & Adventurer series. Each one is a sight to behold and are wonderful replicas of what I consider, the best 50s DeSoto Style (followed very closely by the '59)
Of the models offered, it is hard to pick a favorite. They each have a presence that commands attention. The Firedome was introduced in 1952, and for 1953 & 1954 it was the top-tier Desoto model. In 1955 & 1956, it was the entry-level model. From 1957-1959 in moved to the mid-level model when the Firesweep was introduced.
DM gave us one Firedome model for 1956, and it was a beauty. The 2nd of a Limited Edition two-car set. The model was finished in Lavender Iridescent Metallic & Plum Iridescent Metallic. The 1st model in the set was a Fireflite Hardtop, it was in the same colors, reversed.
1956 DeSoto Fireflite Convertible
The DeSoto Fireflite was introduced in 1955, it was the top-tier DeSoto model, moving the Firedome down a space. For 1956, the Adventurer was a sub-series in the Fireflite lineup. By 1957, the Adventurer became the top-tier level, with the Fireflite just below the Adventurer, but was still considered the top-tier series.
DM offered three Fireflite models, four if you consider the Adventurer was a sub-series of the Fireflite in 1956. The model features here is my favorite, the Sunny Yellow & Jet Black combination is very distinctive and for me, just works perfectly.
I was torn between this Desoto and the '56 Chrysler. 'Both' are great looking. I picked the Desoto hardtop because of the 'ride height' ... particularly in the front-end. The Desoto is lower.
I'vee also been wanting one of these Desoto convertibles. Haven't pulled the trigger on either ... yet.
