Here is the little boy I watched from day 1. I can write a book on our adventures together and he turned out to be a good kid. Excellent student, well mannered and yes he got it all from me.

He is one of the top rated goalies in his league. He had a 4 game tournament last weekend and he shared the net with two other goalies. He was in the net for two games held the score to 1 in one game and 2 in the other, the team went on to win both games. Not so in the other two games; they lost both by a ton.

Yes Frank I am. Drew and I have a solid bond. I watched him as a grandparent since the day he was born. I would drive the hour to our daughters house generally three times a week, spending the day there as my daughter and her husband went to work. Drew and I would sit on his sliding board, along with my dog Maddy, spitting cherry pits over the fence. We would pee off the deck which was forbidden by my daughter but who cared. We drove tractors all day, around the yard, and just loved one another and still do today. This guy calls me all the time when he has questions about life; I am his go-to guy, that makes me proud that I did something right.

Drew is 11, he was moved up to play with older kids, 14 - 15 year olds; he is very talented in his position. And with the move came a ‘New vocabulary which an 11 year old doesn’t know yet. I am the go to guy for the vocabulary lesson which scares the hell out of our daughter. I explained most of the ‘New sign language to him and he now uses it correctly on the ice. Now we are into the vocabulary, what it means, why it is used etc.

When he was moved up, the older kids started to pick on him in the locker room. I would get the call regarding it and what should I do to stop it. Understand Drew is very tall for his age, I explained to Drew what was going on and what he had to do to nip it in the bud. I told him to grab the kid by the throat and bounce him off the locker, if the kid swings, swing back but it has to stop, he has to show the kids he will not be picked on period. Drew called me that night to inform me he has a New best friend. Problem solved.

He will remember his Poppy his entire life, in a good way, I am sure.
