I had to wait another year before I could afford a '79 Thunderbird, but I was surely drawn toward this '78 Special Edition.
(this car has around 14K miles on it, and cost $9200 new)

The T-Bird had fully morphed into a near luxury vehicle for people that couldn't afford a Lincoln Mark.

To this day I still look at those 85mph speedometers and laugh at the idiots in government who mandated them. As if that was going to make any difference.

If my memory is accurate, the Lincoln Mark was priced $10K - $13K at this time.
Most regular production Thunderbirds would've been $7.5 - $8.5K.
