I have a shipment coming from Indianna to Minnesota which made it all the way to St. Paul, according to the tracking.

The next thing I see is that the package managed to end up in Birmingham Alabama, where it still sits. Heaven forbid, they'd make any sort of attempt to fix their mistake as rapidly as they made it.

I've been watching the latest USPS ads running on TV and I just laugh my butt off. The service is definitely getting worse, not better, contrary to what the ads are claiming.

It's actually being caused by computerized scanners utilized in the sorting centers, Ted. I'm not talking barcodes, they actually are using machines to read human writing and typed labels on packages, in addition to barcode readers.
They have cut personnel so deep that they have nobody freely available to oversee and correct the mis-bins, when the scanners can't correctly read handwriting / typographical labels, and send things the wrong direction.
The guy Trump nominated as Postmaster General says they have too many employees and is driving labor out, and the machines they replaced them with don't work.
My family was a USPS contractor for years, I still have some inside contacts telling me what's happening. It's embarrassing what that guy has done to the service.
However, we also know that UPS and FedEx are having their own internal problems right now, particularly with damaging packages, so none of the package delivery businesses are exactly doing a great job since the covid thing caused so many workers to leave jobs.

I know the frustration. Several years ago I tracked a package from New Jersey to California before it made its' way to Maryland.

For the most part, UPS and FedEx in my neck of the woods does pretty well and USPS most of the time. I've had past experience with FedEx damaging shipments, but nothing recent.
I'd hope UPS will improve since they just got a big pay bump in the contract.
I know UPS and FedEx drivers are under pressure, because I've literally seen the drivers sprinting to drop a package, scan it, photograph it, and then get back to the truck for the next stop. UPS doesn't sprint, but they don't waste any time at a stop either.

lol, UPS delivered a box of checks to me by tossing it on the ground in my backyard, on the opposite side of the porch from where I approach the door. I didn't see it, and of course it rained, ruining the checks.

Separately, Fed Ex showed they delivered a package to me, but the house they delivered it to is another house on the same street that I own and rent out, which was vacant, not my actual residence. They don't even get a signature, just drop it on the ground (again it was back yard where I'd never look) It was a DVD, and it snowed on the package, freezing it to the disk. I didn't find it for weeks, with me disputing the delivery the entire time and they wouldn't accept a claim request on it.

My neighbor has a house far back off the main road, but UPS often delivers his package to my back door, which is in front of his and near to the main road.

I now specify that companies who send things to me must deliver to my PO Box, where I know it won't be exposed to the elements. Both Fed Ex and UPS can do that, but you have to be persistent with shippers to make them use that method of delivery, and check the right boxes in the system.

Since I worked in Transportation with Ford, I know that both those services companies can deliver to PO Boxes.
